Abstract
The Byungbon(Ü»Üâ) is written at the chapter 25 in the text Young Choo(çÏõÒ) and the Pyo-Bon-Byung-Jeon-Lon(øöÜâÜ»îîÖå) of the So Moon (áÈÙý).
Even though the transition of disease is complicated, there is a distinction between the root and the branch, meaning the principal and secondary aspects, of a disease(øöÜâ).
Therefore, the treatment of disease is generally within the two major principles-Chi-Bon(ö½Üâ : The treatment of the root cause) and Chi- Pyo(ö½øö : The treatment of secondary effect).
The disease which occurred first becomes Bon(Üâ) which includes the cause, the source, and internal disease, and the disease which occurred later becomes Pyo(øö) including the effect, the result and symptom. The main disease is also called Bon(X), and the complication is called Pyo(øö).
If they are compared to the root and the branch of a tree, the former is Bon(Üâ), the latter Pyo(øö).
It is written as follows;
There is a distinction between Pya(øö) and Bon(Üâ) . and Bon(Üâ) must be treated first.
So, the text is entitled Byung- Bon(Ü»Üâ).
The major contents are summarized as follows;
1. Bon rnust be checked first in all diseases.
2. In treatment, the text, taking examples of diarrhea and abdominal dropsy, stressed the importance of the function of the spleen and the stomach.
In the case of abdominal dropsy, it must be treated first regardless of Pyo and Bon(øöÜâ).
3. The cause generating a disease is divided into Gekgy(ËÔѨ) and Donggy(ÔÒѨ)-Gekgy(ËÔѨ) meaning the outer evil factor (??Ѩ) that causes the infection of a human body through ill elements include viruses outside and Donggy(ÔÒѨ) the healthy energy existed originally inside.
The text discussing the transition of disease and the treatment of the asthenia-syndrome (úÈñø: When healthy energy in body is weaker) and sthenia-syndrome (ãùñø: When the outer evil factor is stronger 1 insists as follows;
If evil factor is in a strong state, it should be rid of first, and if essential energy is in a weak state, it should be complemented first. This illustrates the basis of treatment to both states.
4. The text explains the treatment like the follows;
When the condition of a disease is light, Pyo¡¤Bon(øö¡¤Üâ) and Therapy for invigoration($@&)¡¤Purgation(??Ûö) must be treated at the same time.
When the condition of a disease is serious, Bon or Pyo must be treated by practicing only either Therapy for invigoration or Purgation.
And, in such cases as urination and constioation impossible, they must be treated earlier than any other disease.
This text also insists that urination impossible is more difficult in curing.
